About Travel Packing List
Generates a packing checklist based on trip type — beach, business, camping, international, or winter — with common essentials included automatically, plus room to add your own items. You can also create your own named trip type from scratch for a kind of trip not covered by the built-in presets.
Select your trip type to load a relevant starting checklist, check items off as you pack them, and add any custom items specific to your trip. Use "New Trip Type" to create your own named preset (like "Ski Trip" or "Wedding Guest") and build its item list from scratch — it's saved on this device for next time.
Pack and check off your list a day or two before departure rather than the morning of — it leaves time to actually buy anything you discover you're missing.
Watch: Travel Packing List in Action
- Can I create a packing list for a trip type that isn't in the presets?
- Yes — use "New Trip Type" to create your own named preset (like "Ski Trip" or "Wedding Guest") and build its item list from scratch. It's saved on this device for next time.
- What is on the lists?
- Every list starts with five essentials. Beach adds 8 items, Business 7, Camping 8, International 5 and Winter 7. Selecting several types merges them and removes duplicates, so Phone charger or Travel adapter is shown once. Items such as Tent or Visa documents appear only when their type is selected.
- Can I make my own trip type and edit it later?
- Yes. New Trip Type creates a named type that starts empty. While it is the only type selected, items you add join it and stay saved, and the small X beside a custom item removes it. The X on the type button deletes the whole type. Built-in presets cannot be edited.
- Where is my list stored?
- In this tab's memory for the visit only, not on a server; it is erased when you close the tab. Back up saves a JSON file, custom trip types included, that you can load with Restore.
- What does Copy List give me?
- Plain text with one item per line, starting with [x] for packed items and [ ] for unpacked ones, in the order shown on screen. It suits pasting into a chat, notes app or email. Only the items are copied, not the trip type names.
- Why did my ticks stay when I changed trip type?
- Ticks are remembered by item name, not by trip type, so an item with the same name stays ticked wherever it appears. Use Untick all to clear every tick before planning a new trip. Your custom items and selected types are left in place.
- Is there an official rule for liquids in carry-on bags?
- In the US, TSA allows liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-on bags in travel-size containers of 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less, with each passenger limited to one quart-size bag (the 3-1-1 rule). This tip is general information and rules can change or differ by country and airline, so check the official source before you fly. Official source: TSA: liquids, aerosols and gels
How to use Travel Packing List
Choose one or more trip type buttons: Beach, Business, Camping, International or Winter. Beach is selected at first. Five essentials are always on the list: Phone charger, Toiletries, Medications, ID / Passport, and Cash and cards. Tick each item as you pack it and watch the line counting how many are packed.
Type into Add a custom item and press the plus button or Enter. For a kind of trip not listed, press New Trip Type, name it and press Create, then add items to build its own list. Copy List copies every item with [x] or [ ] markers, and Untick all clears the ticks.
When to use it
Use it before a weekend away, a work trip or a long holiday when you want a baseline list instead of a blank note. Mixed trips are easy: select International and Winter together for a cold-weather trip abroad, and shared items such as a travel adapter appear only once. A saved custom type, like a ski trip, is useful for journeys you repeat.
When not to use it
It does not know your destination, weather, trip length or number of travellers, so it never suggests quantities or checks airline rules. It is not a substitute for official entry requirements: visas, vaccines and baggage limits must be checked with the relevant authority or carrier. For packing planned by day, outfit or weight, a dedicated itinerary planner works better.
Tips for best results
Create a custom type for any trip you repeat, then select it on its own when adding items, because with exactly one custom type chosen, new items are saved into that type for next time. When a built-in type or several types are selected, new items go to a shared extras list that follows you to every trip. Use Back up before closing the tab if you want to keep them.
Limitations
Ticks, selected types and extras are kept only while this tab is open and are erased when you close it. Back up and Restore use a file you save yourself,; custom trip types are included in that file. Built-in presets cannot be edited, only added to, and there are no quantities, dates or categories.
Privacy
The packing list never leaves your browser. Selected trip types, ticks and your own items are kept in this tab's memory for the visit only and erased when you close it; Back up writes them to a JSON file on your device only when you ask. Pressing Copy List may count as a use on the site, with a device identifier, but the list contents are not sent.
