About Bank Statement to CSV
Turns the transaction list in a bank or card statement PDF into a table you can check, fix and save as CSV or Excel. It reads the dates, descriptions, amounts and running balances, then checks that the opening balance plus the rows matches the closing balance. It runs in your browser, so the statement is not uploaded.
Drop a statement PDF that has real text, or paste the transaction lines. Set the year if the dates do not print one. Look at the check under the table, correct any cell that is wrong, then download.
Banks lay statements out in many ways, so read the check line before you trust the numbers. If it shows a gap, the row list under it points to the lines to look at first. Scanned statements have no text to read; run them through OCR first.
- Why does it say the check failed?
- The opening balance plus the rows did not equal the closing balance, or a running balance did not follow from the row above. A missing row, a doubled row or a wrong sign is the usual cause. Fix the highlighted cells and the check runs again.
- Can it read a scanned statement?
- No. A scan is a picture with no text to read. Run it through OCR first, then paste the text here.
- Are my statements uploaded?
- No. The PDF is read in your browser and the rows are gone when you close the page.
How to use Bank Statement to CSV
Drop a statement PDF that has real text, or paste the transaction lines. If the dates print no year, enter it. Leave date order and number style on Detect unless the preview looks wrong. Read the check under the table, fix any cell that is off, then download CSV or Excel.
On a credit card statement, where purchases print as positive amounts, tick the box that flips the signs.
When to use it
Use it to get a month of transactions into a spreadsheet for bookkeeping, a tax file, a budget or a loan form without retyping them.
When not to use it
It cannot read scanned statements or photos, which have no text; use OCR first. It does not connect to your bank and does not categorise spending.
Tips for best results
If the check fails, look at the highlighted rows first. A wrong sign or a description that wrapped onto the next line is the usual cause. Edit the cell and the check updates.
Limitations
Banks lay out statements in many ways, so some lines may be missed or joined. The check compares the opening balance plus the rows with the closing balance, and running balances where they are printed. A statement without those balances cannot be checked, and signs on unsigned amounts are guessed from the words.
Privacy
The statement is read in your browser and is not uploaded. The rows are cleared when you close the page.
