About EPUB Maker
Builds an EPUB 3 e-book from your manuscript files. Add chapters from .docx, .md or .txt files or paste text, put them in order, fill in the book details, optionally add a cover, and download the .epub. The file gets a title page, copyright page, contents page and navigation.
Add chapters, then use the arrows to order them and edit titles. Fill in title, author, language and the other details. Check the reading preview and the accessibility note, then click Build and download.
Word headings, bold, italic and lists carry over. Images inside a .docx are not imported, so a text-only book is the best fit. Test the finished file in an EPUB reader or validator before you upload it anywhere.
- Which file types can I add as chapters?
- Word .docx files, Markdown .md files and plain .txt files. Each file becomes one chapter, and you can also paste text. Headings, bold, italic and lists are kept; images inside a .docx are not imported.
- How is the chapter title chosen?
- If the file starts with a single top-level heading, its text becomes the chapter title and is not repeated in the body. Otherwise the title comes from the file name. You can rename any chapter before building.
- What does the accessibility note mean?
- The EPUB builder only declares EPUB Accessibility 1.1 (WCAG 2.1 AA) conformance in the file when every chapter image has alt text. A text-only book passes. If an image has no alt text the note shows fail and the file is built without that declaration. It is not a full accessibility audit.
- Will Amazon, Apple or other stores accept the file?
- The tool produces a standard EPUB 3 package, but it cannot promise that any store accepts it, because each has its own checks. Run the file through an EPUB validator and the store's own preview before publishing.
- Is my manuscript uploaded anywhere?
- No. Files are read and the EPUB is assembled in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or kept, and the project disappears when you close the page, so download the EPUB before you leave.
How to use EPUB Maker
Drop one file per chapter (.docx, .md or .txt) or paste text, then use the arrows to put the chapters in order and edit their titles. Fill in the title, author, language and any optional details, add a cover if you have one, and read the preview of any chapter. Click Build and download EPUB to get the file.
When to use it
Use it when your manuscript is already written in Word, Markdown or plain text and you need a clean, reflowable EPUB 3 for a reader app, a bookstore upload or a review copy. It is a good fit for novels, essays, guides and short story collections that are mostly text.
When not to use it
Do not use it for fixed-layout books such as picture books, comics or heavily designed cookbooks. It does not edit your writing beyond ordering and titling chapters, so fix the text in your word processor first.
Tips for best results
Start each file with a single # heading or name the file after the chapter, and the title is filled in for you. Check the language code, because readers use it for hyphenation and text-to-speech. Fill in an ISBN only if you own one; it is checked for a valid check digit.
Limitations
Images inside a .docx are not imported, and Markdown images, tables, code blocks and block quote styling are not converted. Headings, bold, italic, underline and lists are kept. The tool does not guarantee that any store or reader accepts the file, so check it in an EPUB reader or validator before you publish.
Privacy
Your files are read and the EPUB is built in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged, and everything is gone when you close or reload the page.
