FIRE Calculator
Calculate your financial independence number and years to reach it
Your FIRE Number
$1,000,000
The portfolio size needed to sustain your expenses indefinitely
Years to Reach FIRE
20 years
Based on the widely-used 4% "safe withdrawal rate" rule of thumb. Assumes constant returns and savings, which real markets and life don't guarantee. Not investment advice.
What is this tool?
Calculates progress toward Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) — the savings target needed to cover your living expenses indefinitely from investment returns alone, based on your annual expenses and a standard safe withdrawal rate.
How to use it
Enter your annual expenses, current savings, and savings rate, and the calculator estimates your FIRE number and roughly how long it will take to reach it.
This works backward from your expenses, not your income — the fastest way to move up your FIRE date is usually reducing expenses, since it lowers your target number and increases your savings rate at the same time.
