What is this tool?
Compares two audio files and shows how similar they sound, as a percentage -- useful for checking if two recordings are the same take, comparing a cover to an original, or spotting whether two files are duplicates despite different filenames or formats. Runs entirely in your browser -- neither file is uploaded anywhere.
How to use it
Upload two audio files and click Compare. Both are analyzed and broken into equal time segments, and each segment's frequency content and loudness are compared between the two files.
Being upfront about what this measures: this is a real spectral/acoustic similarity comparison (frequency content and loudness pattern over time), not an exact byte-for-byte or commercial audio-fingerprinting match like Shazam uses. Two different recordings of the same song will usually score high; two completely different tracks will score low; but this isn't forensic-grade duplicate detection. Files of different lengths are compared on a normalized time basis (each divided into equal segments), so a shortened or extended version of the same audio can still score reasonably high.
