What is this tool?

Reduces the file size of a PDF. "Light" cleans up the file's internal structure without touching quality or text -- always safe, but how much it saves depends entirely on the file (sometimes a lot, sometimes almost nothing, since it can't invent savings that aren't there). "Medium" and "Strong" instead target a real, guaranteed reduction (25% and 50% smaller) by re-rendering pages as compressed images -- reliable and predictable, at the cost of making text no longer selectable or searchable. "Custom Target" lets you set any exact size limit instead of a percentage.

How to use it

Upload your PDF, pick a compression mode, then download the smaller version. Medium, Strong, and Custom Target all search for the best quality that still hits their size goal, so they take a little longer than Light.

If Light barely changes the size, that's not a bug -- it means the file was already efficiently structured. Medium or Strong will still get you a real reduction on the same file, since they work by re-rendering instead of just cleaning up structure.
