India GST calculator: CGST, SGST, IGST and UTGST, with amount in words
Base Amount
₹1,000.00
Total GST
₹180.00
CGST (9%)
₹90.00
SGST (9%)
₹90.00
Total Amount
₹1,180.00
Rupees One Thousand One Hundred Eighty Only
How this was calculated
1. 18% lines (1)
GST = base x rate; each half (CGST and SGST/UTGST) = base x rate / 2, rounded
Using base = ₹1,000.00; rate = 18%; supply = CGST + SGST
Result: CGST ₹90.00 + SGST ₹90.00, total ₹1,180.00
2. Invoice total
Sum of the rate groups (base + GST)
Using base = ₹1,000.00; GST = ₹180.00
Result: ₹1,180.00
GST by rate
| Rate | Taxable value | CGST | SGST | Total GST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18% | ₹1,000.00 | ₹90.00 | ₹90.00 | ₹180.00 | ₹1,180.00 |
CGST and SGST (or UTGST) are each worked out at half the rate and rounded separately, so the two halves are always equal. In Remove GST mode, GST is worked out as the total minus the base, so base plus GST always equals the amount you entered; when that GST would be an odd number of paise (so it could not split into two equal halves), the base is moved by 1 paisa to the nearer even figure. India GST rates in force since 22 September 2025. For businesses outside India see the VAT Calculator, which covers Canada, Australia, Singapore and many more countries. Not tax advice.

About GST Calculator
Calculates India GST (Goods and Services Tax) on a price, either adding GST to a base price or working backward from a GST-inclusive price to find the base amount.
Enter your amount, choose whether to add or remove GST, pick the GST rate, and choose the type of supply: within one state (CGST + SGST), between states (IGST) or to a union territory without a legislature (CGST + UTGST). Amounts are shown in Indian format with the total in words for invoices.
India's GST has 4 main slabs since the September 2025 reform: 0% (essentials), 5% and 18% (most goods and services), and 40% (luxury and "sin" goods like aerated drinks). Two niche rates also still apply specifically: 0.25% for rough diamonds and 3% for gold, silver, and other precious metals. The older 12% and 28% slabs that existed before September 2025 are gone for almost all goods; 28% remains only for tobacco and pan masala, which this calculator's rate list does not include.

- Does this work for any country's GST system?
- It's built around common GST structures like India's, Canada's, and Australia's, but GST rates and rules vary by country. Confirm the specific rate and rules that apply to your situation before relying on the result for anything official.
- Which GST rates can I select?
- The list offers 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 18% and 40%. The page notes that these reflect the structure in force since 22 September 2025. Check that the rate fits your item, because the tool does not classify goods.
- What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
- For a sale within one state, the tax is split equally into central (CGST) and state (SGST) parts. For a sale between states, a single integrated tax (IGST) applies. The Type of supply menu switches between these layouts.
- What is UTGST here?
- For a union territory without a legislature, the state half is called UTGST. Choosing that supply type shows CGST and UTGST at half the selected rate each instead of CGST and SGST.
- How does Remove GST work out the base price?
- It divides the GST-inclusive total by one plus the rate as a decimal, rounds the base to two places, and treats the difference as GST. At 18 percent, you divide by 1.18.
- What is the amount in words line for?
- Indian invoices often state the total in words. The tool writes your total using lakh and crore, such as Rupees One Lakh Eighteen Thousand Only, and includes paise when present. Always proofread it before issuing the invoice.
How to use GST Calculator
Pick Add GST if your figure is before tax or Remove GST if it already includes GST. Type the figure into the amount box, labelled in rupees. Then open GST Rate and choose one of 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 18% or 40%, and set Type of supply: Within a state (CGST + SGST), Between states (IGST) or Union territory (CGST + UTGST).
The result grid shows Base Amount and Total GST, followed by the matching split. For the same state that means CGST and SGST at half the rate each, for between states a single IGST line. The Total Amount appears in large type, with the figure written in words in the Indian lakh and crore style, which is useful on invoices.
When to use it
Use it to prepare an invoice for an Indian customer and see how the tax divides into CGST and SGST, to check what a GST-inclusive shop price was before tax, or to write out an invoice total in words. It also helps when quoting a client whether the supply is local or interstate, since the split changes.
When not to use it
It does not decide which rate applies to your product or service, and it does not handle cess, reverse charge, composition scheme, input tax credit or place-of-supply rules. Use the GST portal's rate finder or ask a chartered accountant for those. For VAT in other countries, the VAT Calculator is the right tool.
Tips for best results
Check the supply type before reading the numbers. The same 18% tax shows as 9% plus 9% for a local sale but as a single 18% IGST line for a sale across state lines. In Remove GST mode, the base is the total divided by one plus the rate, rounded to paise, with GST as the remainder.
Limitations
Rates come from a short fixed list in the dropdown, so a rate outside it cannot be entered. Amounts are rounded to two decimal places at each step, which can differ from your accounting software by a paisa on large batches. The result is general information and not professional tax advice.
Privacy
The amount, rate and supply type are processed by calculation code running in your browser, including the conversion of the total into words. None of the figures you enter are submitted or stored on a server.
