About PDF to PowerPoint
Turns each page of a PDF into a slide in a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx). Picture per slide gives the exact look of each page as one picture, which is the safest way to show a PDF in a presentation. Editable text puts the page's text into real text boxes you can change, with the page's pictures, lines and colours behind them as the slide background. The slide size follows the shape of the PDF pages.
Editable text is a best effort and never an exact copy. Line breaks, spacing, columns and fonts are approximated: fonts that PowerPoint does not have are swapped for a close one, and text that the PDF draws as shapes, or that sits inside a scanned picture, stays in the background picture and cannot be edited. If a page matters more than editing it, use Picture per slide. Tables are not rebuilt as tables; their text arrives as separate text boxes. PDFs protected with a password need unlocking first.
- What is the difference between Picture per slide and Editable text?
- Picture per slide puts each PDF page on its slide as one picture, so it looks exactly like the PDF but the text cannot be edited. Editable text finds the text in the PDF and puts it into text boxes you can change, over a picture of the page without its text. It is a best effort: line breaks, spacing, columns and fonts are approximated.
- Why does some text stay in the picture?
- Some PDFs draw letters as shapes instead of text, and scanned pages are only pictures of text. Neither can be turned into editable text without reading the picture. After converting, the tool tells you how many pieces of text became editable and how many stayed in the background.
- What size are the slides?
- The slide takes the size and shape of the first PDF page, kept between 4 and 56 inches on the long side, which is PowerPoint’s limit. A page with a different shape from the first is fitted inside its slide with space around it.
- Does it read scanned PDFs?
- No. A scanned page becomes a picture only, in either mode. There is no text recognition in this tool.
How to use PDF to PowerPoint
Drop a PDF. A strip of its first pages shows what you are converting. Choose Picture per slide for an exact look with no editing, or Editable text for text you can change. Press Convert to PowerPoint and watch the page counter; Stop ends it at any time. When it finishes you see the slide size, the number of slides, and, in editable mode, a summary of how many pieces of text became editable and how many stayed in the picture. Flip through the preview next to the Download button, then download.
When to use it
Picture per slide is the safe choice for showing PDF pages in a talk, such as a report, a paper’s figures or a brochure, with no change at all in how they look. Editable text suits PDFs that began life as slides or simple documents, when you want to fix a heading or reword a line without retyping the whole page.
When not to use it
If you need a faithful, fully editable copy of a complicated PDF, such as a designed magazine, a table-heavy report or a scanned document, no tool of this kind will give you one, and this one does not try to. For Word documents, PDF to Word is the better route. Scans need text recognition first, which this tool does not do.
Tips for best results
Convert in Picture mode first if you are unsure; it never changes how a page looks. In Editable text mode, read the summary and flip through every slide before you rely on it. If many pieces of text stayed in the picture, the PDF draws its text as shapes and Picture per slide is the better choice.
Limitations
Editable text is a best effort. Text boxes follow where the PDF puts each line, but line breaks, spacing, columns and tables are approximated, and tables are not rebuilt as tables. Fonts PowerPoint does not have are replaced with a close one and listed. Text that a PDF draws as shapes, and text in scanned pictures, stays in the background picture. Colour is measured from the page and can be slightly off. The slide takes the size of the first page.
Privacy
The PDF is opened and every page is drawn in your browser, and the presentation is built there too, so the file is not uploaded. A request that counts the use goes to this site when you download and carries no part of your PDF.
