What does the quality slider actually control?

How much WebP's lossy compression simplifies the image when converting INTO WebP -- higher values keep more detail at a larger file size, lower values compress harder at the cost of visible quality loss. 80% is a common, well-balanced default for most photos. It doesn't apply when converting a WebP back out to JPG/PNG, since that direction uses a fixed, high-quality setting instead.
