About PowerPoint Template and Theme Maker
Turns a presentation into a PowerPoint template (.potx), and lets you change its theme on the way: the twelve theme colours, the heading and body fonts and the theme's name. Keep all the slides, only the first, or none, so what is left is a clean starting point. A .potx opens in PowerPoint as a new untitled deck, so the original template cannot be overwritten by accident. You can also save the re-themed result as a normal .pptx.
New shapes, charts and tables you add in PowerPoint follow the theme, but text and shapes in the existing slides that were given a fixed colour or font do not; the result counts how many there are, so you know whether the slides will look different. Decks made by some other tools fix every colour, and then only new content changes. The .potx has been checked in LibreOffice, not in desktop PowerPoint. Fonts are saved by name, so use ones installed on the computers that will open the template.
- What does it change?
- The twelve theme colours, the heading and body fonts, and the theme's name. It can also keep all, one or none of the slides, and take out speaker notes, comments and the author's name.
- Will my existing slides change colour?
- Only where they use theme colours. Shapes and text that were given a fixed colour or font stay as they are, and the result counts how many there are. Decks made by some other tools fix every colour; for those only new content follows the theme.
- Does the .potx work in PowerPoint?
- It is the same package with the presentation part marked as a template, as PowerPoint writes it. It was checked in LibreOffice and by the site's own checks; it has not been tried in desktop PowerPoint.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The deck is read and rewritten in your browser tab.
How to use PowerPoint Template and Theme Maker
Drop a .pptx, change the theme colours, fonts and name, and choose which slides to keep and whether to save a .potx or a .pptx. The preview shows your original next to the result.
When to use it
Useful for turning a finished deck into a starting template for a team, for re-colouring a deck to a brand, and for stripping a deck down to its layouts.
When not to use it
If the slides were built with fixed colours and fonts, changing the theme will not restyle them; rebuild them in the Slide Deck Maker with your brand colour.
Tips for best results
Use fonts installed on the computers that will open the template. Keep only the first slide, or none, for a clean template.
Limitations
Shapes with a fixed colour or font do not follow the theme and are counted in the result. A .potx has been checked in LibreOffice and not in desktop PowerPoint. Only the theme is changed, not the layouts' positions.
Privacy
The deck is read and rewritten inside your browser tab and is not uploaded. A request that counts the use goes to this site when you download and carries no part of your file.
