What is this tool?
Analyzes a piece of writing and calculates its Flesch Reading Ease score and estimated grade level, giving you an objective measure of how easy or difficult the text is to read -- useful for checking that content written for a general audience isn't accidentally coming out at a graduate-reading-level of complexity, or the reverse.
How to use it
Paste your text, and the reading level, word count, and sentence count are calculated automatically.
Shorter sentences and simpler, more common words are the two biggest levers for lowering a reading-level score if your writing is coming out more complex than your intended audience -- breaking one long sentence with several clauses into two or three shorter ones usually moves the score more than swapping individual words.
