About Focus and Stage Timer
A countdown timer with two modes. Stage mode gives speakers a big, full-screen countdown that turns amber and then red as time runs out, with a message you can show and overtime counting up. Focus mode runs work and break rounds for your own concentration.
Pick Stage or Focus. In Stage, type a length (5, 5:30 or 1:05:00) or choose a preset, set when the warnings start, and press Start. Use Full screen on a second display or a tablet facing the speaker. In Focus, set your work and break lengths and press Start.
The timer works from the clock, so it stays correct even if the screen sleeps for a moment. Keep the tab open and the device plugged in during a live event, and test the sound before you go on.
- How does the stage timer warn the speaker?
- The screen is green while there is plenty of time, turns amber when your first warning time is reached, red at the final warning, and dark red when time is up, when it counts up with a plus sign. A short beep marks each change if sound is on.
- Can I show it on a second screen?
- Yes. Press Full screen, or open the page on a tablet or laptop facing the speaker. The numerals are large enough to read from across a room.
- Can it follow my agenda?
- Yes. Use my agenda loads your project's sessions that have an end time, and Next session moves to the following one with its own length.
- Does it stay accurate if the screen sleeps?
- It works from the clock, so the time shown is always correct when you look. It also asks the browser to keep the screen on while it runs, where the browser allows it. Keep the tab open.
- How does focus mode work?
- It alternates focus rounds with short breaks and a long break after every few rounds. You choose the lengths, and it can start each next round by itself.
How to use Focus and Stage Timer
Choose Stage timer or Focus timer. For a stage, pick a preset or type a length, set when the amber and red warnings start, add an optional message, and press Start. Use Full screen for the speaker's display. For focus, set your round lengths and press Start.
When to use it
Use it for keynotes, panels, lightning talks, workshops and meetings where speakers must finish on time, and for your own study or work sessions.
When not to use it
It is one timer at a time and does not sync between devices, so it cannot drive several screens from one controller.
Tips for best results
Set the red warning to 30 seconds and the amber one to two minutes for a short talk, and test the sound and full screen before the session starts.
Limitations
Sound needs the browser to allow audio after you have tapped the page. Keeping the screen awake depends on the browser. The timer stops if the tab is closed.
Privacy
Nothing is sent anywhere. The timer runs entirely in your browser.
