Generador de hash: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 y SHA-512
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 hashes
About Hash Generator
Generates a cryptographic hash (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and others) from text or a file, useful for verifying file integrity or generating a checksum.
Paste text or choose a file and press Generate. You get MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 together, and files are read in chunks on your device (they are never uploaded). Paste an expected checksum to see whether it matches.
MD5 and SHA-1 are considered cryptographically broken for security purposes (though still fine for basic integrity checks) — use SHA-256 or stronger if the hash needs to actually resist tampering, not just detect accidental corruption.
Watch: Hash Generator in Action
- Why doesn't my text hash match the one from my terminal?
- Most often a trailing newline differs. Commands like echo add a line break unless told not to, while the text box hashes exactly what you typed. The tool encodes text as UTF-8, so other encodings give different values.
- Can I hash a large file?
- Yes. Files are read in 4 megabyte pieces rather than loaded whole, and a percentage shows progress. Very big files still take time and depend on your device, but there is no upload size limit imposed by a server.
- How does the checksum comparison work?
- Your pasted value is trimmed, lowercased and stripped of spaces, then compared against all five results. If one agrees, the page shows Match plus that algorithm's name. Otherwise it says there is no match.
How to use Hash Generator
Either type or paste text into Input Text, which is hashed as UTF-8, or click the underlined line Or choose a file to hash to pick a file from your device. The file name and size in bytes are then shown, with Remove file beside it. Press Generate Hashes. While a large file is processed, the button shows a percentage.
Results list MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 together, each with a Copy button. To verify a download, paste the checksum published by its author into Compare with expected checksum. The page reports Match along with the algorithm name, or says there is no match for any algorithm.
When to use it
Use it to confirm a downloaded installer or disk image matches the checksum on the publisher's page, to compare two files you suspect are identical, to produce a fingerprint of a block of text for a config or test fixture, or to check which algorithm a checksum you were given was made with.
When not to use it
Do not use these plain hashes to store passwords. They are fast by design, which makes guessing easy, so a password needs a dedicated slow algorithm such as bcrypt or Argon2 on the server. MD5 and SHA-1 should not be relied on where an attacker could craft collisions, for example signatures. Pick SHA-256 or longer in those cases.
Tips for best results
Matching ignores letter case and spaces, so you can paste a checksum exactly as copied from a web page. Hashing is sensitive to every byte: an extra trailing newline or space in the text box gives a completely different result, which is the most common reason a text hash does not agree with a command-line tool.
Limitations
The result is a hash only, so there is no HMAC, salt or option to choose a single algorithm, and all five are always computed. A file takes priority over the text box when both are present. Hashing cannot be reversed, and the tool cannot tell whether the checksum you pasted came from a trustworthy source.
Privacy
Text is converted to bytes and hashed on the page. A chosen file is read from your disk in 4 megabyte slices by your browser and fed to the hashing code, so it is never uploaded. The five digests are computed on your device and shown only to you.
