$20.00

Final Price

$80.00

How this was calculated
  1. 1. Discount 1: 20% off

    Price x (1 - discount / 100)

    Using price = $100.00; discount % = 20

    Result: $80.00

  2. 2. Total saved

    Original price - final price

    Using original = $100.00; final = $80.00

    Result: $20.00 (20% off)

Details

Price after one percentage discount = original x (1 - discount/100); a fixed amount is subtracted instead. A second discount is applied to the already reduced price, so the total off is 1 - (1 - d1/100)(1 - d2/100); 20% then 10% is 28%, not 30%. With a percentage and a fixed amount the order matters: on 100, 20% then 15 off is 65, but 15 off then 20% is 68. A discount that would take the price below 0 is refused. Tax is added on the discounted price. "Find the discount %" works backwards: (original - sale) / original x 100. Rounded to cents; estimate only.
