About Add Slide Numbers to PowerPoint
Puts slide numbers on every slide of a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx), in the corner you choose. Choose the style (3, Slide 3, or 3 / 12), the size and colour, the number the deck starts at, and whether the title slide stays bare. The number is a real PowerPoint slide-number field, so it keeps up when you move slides around afterwards. There is also a switch to take the slide numbers off again.
To make the first slide after the title slide number 1, tick "Leave the first slide without a number" and start at 0. The numbers are added to each slide, not to the slide master, so slides you add later in PowerPoint will not have one, and a slide that already has its own number is left as it is. "3 / 12" writes the total as plain text because PowerPoint has no total-slides field: it will not update if you add slides later. Old .ppt files: open them in PowerPoint and save as .pptx first.
- Are these real slide numbers?
- Yes. Each number is a PowerPoint slide-number field, so it keeps up when you move slides. The total in 3 / 12 is plain text because PowerPoint has no total-slides field, so it will not update if you add slides later.
- Can the title slide have no number but the next slide be number 1?
- Yes. Tick Leave the first slide without a number and start at 0, so the second slide shows 1.
- What if a slide already has a number?
- It is left as it is, and the result says how many slides already had one.
- Can I remove slide numbers?
- Yes, choose Remove slide numbers. It takes the number off every slide. Numbers that sit on the layouts or the slide master are left alone.
How to use Add Slide Numbers to PowerPoint
Drop your .pptx, choose where the number goes, its style, size and colour, and the number the first slide has. Decide whether the first slide stays bare. The preview shows your original next to the numbered deck; download when it looks right.
When to use it
Useful for handouts, lectures and reviews where people refer to a slide by number, for decks that were built without a number placeholder, and for decks whose theme does not show numbers.
When not to use it
If you want numbers to appear automatically on slides you add later, turn them on in PowerPoint with Insert, then Slide Number, then Apply to All, which sets them on the master.
Tips for best results
Use 12 pt or larger so the numbers are readable on a projector. Bottom right is the usual place. Preview a dark slide to make sure the colour still shows.
Limitations
Numbers are added to the slides themselves, not to the master, so slides added later have none. The total in 3 / 12 does not update. A slide whose layout has no room in the chosen corner may look crowded; check the preview. The result has not been checked in desktop PowerPoint.
Privacy
The deck is rewritten inside your browser tab and is not uploaded. A request that counts the use goes to this site when you download and carries no part of your file.
