About Word to PowerPoint
Turns a Word document (.docx) into a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx). Headings start the slides, the paragraphs under them become bullets or text lines, simple tables become table slides, and long sections continue on another slide. Before the slides are made you get the outline as text that you can edit, so you decide what ends up on each slide.
This reads the document's headings, paragraphs, lists and simple tables, so use Word's real Heading styles; text that is only made big and bold is treated as a paragraph. Pictures, text boxes, comments, footnotes, headers and footers, charts and equations are not carried over, and the tool tells you what it found and left out. Long paragraphs make crowded slides: shorten them in the outline. Old .doc files: open them in Word and save as .docx first.
- How does it decide where a slide starts?
- Each Heading 1 starts a slide, or choose Heading 2 so that Heading 1 becomes a section slide. The paragraphs and lists under a heading become its bullets and long sections continue on another slide.
- Can I change what goes on the slides?
- Yes. The outline is shown as text before anything is built. Edit it, and the preview redraws as you type.
- What is left out?
- Pictures, text boxes, comments, footnotes, headers, footers, charts and equations. The page lists what it found and left out.
- Does it summarise the document?
- No. The words on the slides are the words in the document, split into slides. Shorten long paragraphs yourself in the outline.
How to use Word to PowerPoint
Drop your .docx. Choose which heading level starts a slide and whether paragraphs become bullets or plain lines. Edit the outline on the left if you like, pick a look, and check the slides on the right. Download when it looks right.
When to use it
Useful when a report, a lesson plan or minutes have to become a first draft of a deck. It does the splitting and typing so you can finish the slides in PowerPoint.
When not to use it
If the document has no real headings, the result will be one long slide list. If it is mostly pictures or complex tables, build the slides in PowerPoint.
Tips for best results
Use Word's Heading styles before converting. Shorten long paragraphs in the outline: slides read better with six short lines. Try Heading 2 for long reports.
Limitations
Reads headings, paragraphs, lists and simple tables only. Pictures and text boxes are not carried over. Word's Heading styles are used; text that is only large and bold is a paragraph. Old .doc files must be saved as .docx first. The result has not been checked in desktop PowerPoint.
Privacy
The document is read and the presentation is built inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded. A request that counts the use goes to this site when you download and carries no part of your file.
