About Emoji Picker & Copy
A searchable emoji picker with the complete Unicode emoji set (about 1,900 emoji), organised by category, with skin-tone choices, so you can find and copy any emoji without scrolling through a phone keyboard.
Search by keyword (like "happy" or "travel") or pick a category, choose a skin tone if you want one, and click any emoji to copy it to your clipboard.
Try a few different keywords if your first search doesn't find what you're looking for — emoji are tagged by common descriptive words, and different people describe the same emoji slightly differently. How an emoji looks depends on the device you paste it into.
Watch: Emoji Picker & Copy in Action
- What if my first search doesn't find the emoji I'm looking for?
- Try a few different keywords — emoji are tagged by common descriptive words, and different people describe the same emoji slightly differently, so a second search term often finds what the first one missed.
- How many emoji are in the picker?
- The count above the grid tells you how many match your current search and category. With nothing typed it shows the whole data set, which is a little under 2,000 base emoji, including the flags and the people and body group.
- Why do I only see a small set of emoji at first?
- The full list loads a moment after the page opens. If that file cannot be loaded, the picker falls back to a built-in set of about 180 common emoji, and the category chips then show little beyond the first group.
- Why did the skin tone not change some emoji?
- Only emoji that have a full set of five tone variants in the data are switched. Faces, animals, objects, symbols and flags have none, so they appear the same in every tone, and Default always shows the standard yellow versions.
- What does the search look at?
- It checks whether your text appears anywhere in the emoji's English name or in any of its tags, ignoring capital letters. Partial words work, so a short fragment like sun can match several emoji. Words from other languages will not match.
- Why does a copied emoji look different when I paste it?
- What gets copied is the emoji character itself, not a picture. Each app and operating system draws it in its own style, so a pasted emoji can look different from the one in the grid, even though it is the same character.
How to use Emoji Picker & Copy
Open the page and wait a moment for the line above the grid to change from Loading the full emoji set to a count of emoji. Type a word such as heart, travel or party into the search box; the grid narrows as you type and matches both the emoji name and its tags. To browse instead, press a category chip: All, Smileys & emotion, People & body, Animals & nature, Food & drink, Travel & places, Activities, Objects, Symbols or Flags.
Use the Skin tone menu to switch between Default, Light, Medium-light, Medium, Medium-dark and Dark for emoji that offer variants. Click an emoji and it is copied to your clipboard, with a short Copied message confirming which one; then paste it where you need it.
When to use it
Helpful on a desktop or laptop where the built-in emoji panel is awkward or missing, for example when writing a document title, a README, a spreadsheet label, a slide or a social post and you need an emoji by name. The skin tone menu is useful when you want a hand gesture in a specific tone without long-pressing on a phone keyboard.
When not to use it
It is a picker, not a keyboard: it will not insert an emoji into another app for you, and it does not offer GIFs, stickers or custom images. If you need to type many emoji quickly into a chat, the emoji panel built into your operating system will be faster. It also cannot tell you how an emoji will look on a recipient's phone.
Tips for best results
Search matches any part of an emoji's official name or its tags, so a short fragment like bird or sun brings up several at once. The skin tone you choose stays selected while you search and switch categories, so set it once. Pasting into plain-text places such as code comments or commit messages usually works, though a few terminals draw emoji as boxes.
Limitations
Skin tones apply only to emoji that come with five single-tone variants in the data set, so faces, objects and flags stay as they are. Search is English only. Each click copies exactly one emoji, with no multi-select tray or recent list. The look of every emoji comes from the font on the device displaying it, and very new emoji may appear as boxes on older systems.
Privacy
The emoji list comes from a data file served by this site itself and loaded when the page opens, so searching, filtering and tone changes happen locally and your search words are never sent to a server. Clicking an emoji writes it to your clipboard through the browser. The site notes that a copy took place, but not what you searched for or which emoji you chose.
