Voice Recorder
Record audio from your microphone and download it
Your files are processed on your device. The first use downloads a processing engine, which your browser then keeps.
About Voice Recorder
Records audio directly from your microphone and lets you download it, useful for quick voice memos, narration, or capturing an idea without a separate recording app. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Click Start Recording, grant microphone access, and speak. Pause and resume as needed, click Stop when you're done, then preview and download the recording.
The level bar shows that your microphone is being heard; if it stays flat, check the microphone. Your browser records WebM or M4A. Use Download as MP3 if you need a file that plays everywhere (WhatsApp, email, older players).

- What audio format does the recording save as?
- It depends on your browser, usually WebM or MP4 audio. If you need a specific format like MP3 or WAV for another program, run the downloaded file through the Audio Converter tool afterward.
- Why does the page say microphone access was denied?
- Browsers ask for permission only once per site, and a Block choice is remembered. Click the lock or info icon beside the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, and reload the page. The message on the page repeats these steps and also covers installed shortcuts.
- What file format will I get?
- Whatever your browser can record, tried in this order: WebM with Opus, WebM, MP4 and OGG with Opus. Chrome and Edge usually give WebM, while some Safari versions give an M4A file. Download as MP3 converts the take into a widely playable MP3.
- Does pausing leave a gap of silence in the recording?
- No. Pause suspends the recorder itself, and the timer stops counting, so the paused time is not in the file. Resume continues the same take. The timer shows paused next to the time while you wait.
- What happens if I close the tab or the browser crashes?
- The recording is lost, because it exists only in that tab's memory until you download it. While you are recording, the browser shows a confirmation if you try to close or leave the page. Download the file as soon as you stop.
- Can I choose a different microphone, like a headset?
- Yes, when your browser reports more than one input a Microphone menu appears before recording. Pick the device by name. If a chosen device was unplugged since you selected it, the tool falls back to the default microphone.
How to use Voice Recorder
Press Start Recording. Your browser then asks for permission to use the microphone; choose Allow. If the browser reports more than one input, a Microphone menu appears before you start, with Default and each named device, so pick the one you want first.
While recording you see a running timer and a level bar. Pause and Resume stop and restart capture without ending the take, and Stop Recording finishes it. A player then appears so you can listen back. Download saves the file in the format your browser produced (WebM, M4A or OGG), Download as MP3 converts it first, and Record Again discards the take. Files are named voice-recording followed by the date and time.
When to use it
It suits quick voice memos, a spoken draft of an email or script, narration for a slide, or a sound sample you want to test on a laptop microphone before using better gear. The level bar and the no-sound warning are handy for checking that the right microphone is selected before a long take.
When not to use it
It records the microphone only, so it cannot capture a video call or music playing on the computer. It has no trimming, so cut mistakes afterwards in the Audio Trimmer. For a multi-hour interview where losing the take would be costly, use a dedicated recorder app, since this take lives in one browser tab.
Tips for best results
If the level bar stays flat for about three seconds a warning appears; that usually means the wrong input or a muted microphone, not a broken page. Names in the Microphone menu only show up fully after permission has been granted once. Choose Download as MP3 when the recording must open in WhatsApp, email clients or older players, because WebM often does not.
Limitations
The recording format is chosen by your browser, trying WebM with Opus, plain WebM, MP4 and OGG with Opus in that order, so you cannot pick it. The take is held in the tab's memory, and closing or reloading the tab loses it; the browser asks for confirmation if you try to leave while recording. The tool adds no gain, echo or noise controls of its own.
Privacy
Sound from the microphone is captured by the browser's own recorder and kept in memory in this tab, in one-second pieces, with no account or saving step. Nothing is uploaded. The microphone is released as soon as you press Stop Recording. Only Download as MP3 makes an outside request: it fetches a conversion engine of about 25 MB from a public CDN, then converts on your device.
