Avatar Builder
Build a custom avatar from hair, eyes, and color options — no photo needed
About Avatar Builder
Builds a custom cartoon-style avatar from a selection of hair styles, eyes, colors, and glasses — entirely parametric and hand-drawn, built from simple shapes, with no photo involved.
Choose options for skin tone, hair style and color, eyes, mouth, and background from the available choices, or use the randomize button, then download your avatar as a PNG (256, 512 or 1024 px, optionally circle-cropped with a transparent background) or an SVG.
The randomize button is a genuinely fast way to find a starting combination you like, which you can then fine-tune individual features from rather than building one from scratch.
Watch: Avatar Builder in Action
- Is this AI-generated, or based on a photo I upload?
- Neither — this is entirely parametric and hand-drawn, built from a selection of hair styles, eyes, colors, and accessories you choose. No photo upload or AI image generation is involved.
- What options can I change?
- Background (7 colors), skin tone (6), face shape (round, oval, square), hair style (5), hair color (7), eyes (8), mouth (8) and a Glasses checkbox. That is the full list of controls.
- What file formats can I download?
- PNG at 256, 512 or 1024 pixels square, named like avatar-512.png, and an SVG named avatar.svg whose width and height follow the selected size. Both respect the Circle crop and Transparent background checkboxes.
- Does Transparent background remove the circle too?
- No. Transparent background only drops the colored backdrop. Circle crop is a separate switch that clips the picture to a circle. Used together you get a face on a round shape with clear surroundings.
- Does Randomize change my export size?
- No. It randomizes the look: colors, face, hair, eyes, mouth and glasses. Size, Circle crop and Transparent background stay exactly as you set them, so you can keep rolling until you like the face.
- Can I use the avatar commercially?
- The drawings are created by this page from your selections, so there is no photo or third-party image involved. Check any platform's own rules for profile images, and note that other people can build an identical avatar from the same options.
How to use Avatar Builder
The preview on the left redraws as you click options on the right. Choose a Background and a Skin Tone from the color dots, a Face Shape of round, oval or square, a Hair Style of short, bald, bun, long or spiky, and a Hair Color. Eyes offers normal, happy, wink, surprised, sad, angry, closed and hearts. Mouth offers smile, grin, neutral, open, sad, smirk, tongue and worried. Tick Glasses if wanted.
Randomize picks every option at once. Before downloading, set Size to 256, 512 or 1024 px, and optionally Circle crop and Transparent background. Download PNG saves avatar-512.png style files, and SVG saves avatar.svg.
When to use it
Use it to make a profile picture for a forum, game server, Slack-style workspace or placeholder for a demo app when you would rather not post a photo. The SVG output also suits designers who want to open the character in a vector editor, and the transparent circle version drops cleanly on top of any colored badge.
When not to use it
It will not make a likeness of a real person: there is no beard, clothing, hat, earrings or custom skin color, only the fixed choices listed. If you need a stylized portrait of yourself, an illustrator or a photo-based cartoon service fits better. For consistent avatars for thousands of users, a generated identicon set is more practical.
Tips for best results
Randomize first, then change one feature at a time, which is faster than building from the default face. Circle crop with Transparent background gives a round PNG with clear corners, while circle crop alone still produces clear corners because the picture is cut to a circle. If you may resize later, download the SVG, which scales without any loss, instead of a PNG.
Limitations
Only the head is drawn, with no shoulders or body. Colors come from fixed swatches: 7 backgrounds, 6 skin tones and 7 hair colors, with no custom color picker. Randomize does not touch the export options, and glasses are a single round style. The 1024 pixel size is the largest PNG offered.
Privacy
The avatar is a small piece of vector markup built by the page from your choices. PNG export draws that markup onto a canvas in your browser, and SVG export writes the markup out as text. There is no photo upload and no image is generated on a server. Each download registers a use with the site's counter, labelled only with the tool name and an anonymous browser id.
