About Presentation Converter
Converts a presentation from one format to another: PowerPoint (.pptx, and the older .ppt and .pps), OpenDocument (.odp, used by LibreOffice and Google Slides downloads) and Keynote (.key) files into .pptx, .odp, .ppt or PDF. Use it to open a presentation your tools cannot read, to share a deck with someone on another program, or to turn any of them into a PDF. Conversion runs on our server; the file is deleted as soon as the answer is sent.
Fonts that are not installed on our server are replaced, and animations, transitions and some effects can change in a conversion, so open the result and check it. For the most faithful result between PowerPoint and Keynote or Google Slides, .pptx is the format all three read and write. Password-protected files must be unlocked first.
- Which presentation files can I convert?
- PowerPoint .pptx, .ppt and .pps, OpenDocument .odp (LibreOffice and OpenOffice), and Keynote .key. The type is recognised from the file itself, not just its name. You can turn any of them into .pptx, PDF, .odp or the old .ppt format.
- Is my presentation uploaded?
- Yes, for this tool. Old PowerPoint, OpenDocument and Keynote files cannot be read in a browser, so the file goes to our server, is converted, and is deleted as soon as the result is sent back. It is not kept or read. The other PowerPoint tools that run in your browser stay in your browser.
- How do I use a Google Slides deck?
- In Google Slides choose File, Download, Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx). That gives you a .pptx that every PowerPoint tool here accepts. To bring a deck back into Google Slides, convert it to .pptx here and upload that file to Google Drive.
- What about Keynote?
- You can drop a Keynote .key file here and convert it to .pptx or PDF; layouts can change, so check the result. If you have Keynote, File, Export To, PowerPoint gives the most faithful .pptx. Keynote opens .pptx files directly, so there is no need to make a .key file.
- Will it look exactly the same?
- Often close, never guaranteed. Fonts that are not on our server are replaced, and animations, transitions, SmartArt and some effects can change. The Before and After previews let you compare, and the file is yours to fix in your own program.
- What are the limits?
- Files up to 30 MB, and a password-protected file is refused until you remove the password. If many people convert at once you may be asked to try again in a few seconds.
How to use Presentation Converter
Drop a PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt, .pps), OpenDocument (.odp) or Keynote (.key) file. The tool reads it and shows the first slide. Choose the format you need: .pptx, PDF, .odp or the old .ppt, then press Convert, look at the Before and After previews, and download. For Google Slides use File, Download, Microsoft PowerPoint first; for Keynote use File, Export To, PowerPoint, or drop the .key file here.
When to use it
Use it when a tool, a colleague or a school system cannot open your file: an old .ppt from a previous computer, an .odp from LibreOffice, a Keynote deck that has to go to a PowerPoint user, or a deck that must become a PDF. It also feeds the other PowerPoint tools, which accept these files by converting them to .pptx first.
When not to use it
Do not use it for a password-protected file (remove the password first), for a deck with a lot of animation that must play exactly the same (animations and transitions change), or when the original program can export the format itself, because that gives the best result. It does not make a Keynote .key file from a PowerPoint: Keynote opens .pptx files directly.
Tips for best results
Use .pptx when you are not sure: PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides all read it. Compare the After preview with the Before preview slide by slide for fonts and pictures. If a font looks wrong, install the font on the computer that will open the result or change it with Replace Fonts in PowerPoint.
Limitations
Conversion is done by LibreOffice, so fonts that are not on our server are replaced and text can move a little, and animations, transitions, SmartArt and some effects can change. A file can be up to 30 MB. Very large or complex decks can take up to a minute. Always open the result and look through it before you share it.
Privacy
Unlike most tools here, this one cannot run inside your browser: your file is sent to our server, converted, returned, and deleted as soon as the answer is sent. It is not stored, read by a person or used for anything else. Because the trial use is counted when you download, the use-count request carries no part of your file.
