About Passport Photo Maker
Resizes and crops a regular photo to standard passport/visa photo dimension templates for several countries, and can lay out multiple copies on a single printable sheet.
Upload a photo taken against a plain background, select a country's standard size template from the preset list, adjust the framing, and download either a single photo or a print-ready sheet.
Take the original photo in even, natural light with a plain white or light-colored background — this tool handles the size and crop correctly, but it can't fix harsh shadows or a distracting background behind you. Honestly: these are standard dimension templates, not an official compliance check — actual government photo requirements can include rules this tool doesn't verify (specific background color, facial expression, glasses/head covering rules, recency of the photo, and more), and requirements do change. Always check your destination country's current official passport/visa photo requirements directly before submitting, rather than assuming a correctly-sized photo is automatically an accepted one.

- Can this fix a photo with a busy or shadowed background?
- Partly. The Make background white + auto-fit head button cuts you out and puts a plain white background behind you, which works best on an evenly lit photo with a fairly plain background. It cannot fix harsh shadows on your face or hair, and a very busy background can leave rough edges, so check the preview before you download. For the best result, take the photo in even, natural light against a plain white or light-colored wall.
- Can I print multiple copies on one sheet?
- Yes — after selecting a size template, you can lay out multiple copies on a single printable sheet instead of downloading just one photo at a time.
- Does a correctly-sized photo mean it's guaranteed to be accepted?
- No — this handles standard photo dimensions accurately, but real government requirements often include rules beyond size alone (background color, facial expression, glasses or head-covering rules, how recently the photo was taken, and more), and requirements can change. Always check your destination country's current official photo requirements directly before submitting — a correctly-sized photo isn't automatically a compliant one.
- Which countries' size presets are included?
- US (2×2 in), UK/EU (35×45 mm), Canada (50×70 mm), India (51×51 mm), and China visa (33×48 mm) — covering the most commonly needed standard dimensions, though not every country's specific requirements.
- What resolution is the output photo?
- 300 DPI at the selected template's real physical dimensions — the standard resolution most photo printing and official submission processes expect.
- Are my photos uploaded to a server?
- No — resizing, cropping, and print-sheet layout all happen entirely in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
- What size is the print sheet, and how many photos fit on it?
- A standard 4×6 inch sheet at 300 DPI — how many copies fit depends on the selected photo size template, since smaller photo dimensions naturally fit more copies per sheet.
- Can I adjust the zoom and position of my face within the frame?
- Yes — zoom and horizontal/vertical position sliders let you fine-tune the framing after uploading, so you can center your face correctly within the required dimensions rather than being stuck with an automatic crop.
- Does the Canada preset cover everything Canada requires?
- It gets the photo dimensions (50×70 mm) right, but Canada has an unusual additional requirement this tool genuinely can't fulfill: printed passport photos must be taken or verified by a commercial photographer, with a stamp and a signed guarantor statement on the back of one print. Check current IRCC requirements directly for the full process, not just the photo dimensions.
- Which photo sizes does it offer?
- Twelve templates: US Passport or Visa at 2 x 2 inches (600 x 600 px at 300 dpi), UK, EU / Schengen Visa, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore and South Korea at 35 x 45 mm (413 x 531 px), Canada at 50 x 70 mm, India at 51 x 51 mm, and China Visa at 33 x 48 mm. The exact output size is shown under the Photo Size menu. New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore and South Korea are marked as not yet compared with the official page; each template links the official page to confirm the rules.
- Will my photo be accepted by the embassy or passport office?
- The tool cannot promise that. It only sizes and crops to a template. Authorities set rules on background, expression, glasses and recency, and they change, so confirm the current requirements of the issuing authority before submitting.
- What do the File size limit options do?
- You can choose No limit or under 50, 100, 240 or 500 KB. The single photo is saved at the highest JPEG quality that fits, down to a minimum. The print sheet does not use this limit.
- What is in the print sheet?
- A 4 x 6 inch page at 300 DPI, set portrait or landscape whichever fits more copies of your template, with thin grey outlines between photos as cutting guides. It is saved as a JPEG.
- What does the auto-fit button do, and what can go wrong?
- It cuts out the person, puts a white background behind them, and sets Zoom and Position to aim the head at the middle of the allowed range. It is an estimate, so check the face against both ovals and fine-tune manually.
How to use Passport Photo Maker
Drop a front-facing photo taken against a plain background. Open the Photo Size menu and choose a template: US Passport / Visa, UK Passport, EU / Schengen Visa, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, India or China Visa. The lines below it state the exact output size in pixels and dpi, the head-height range the tool uses, and a link to the official page; New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore and South Korea are marked as not yet compared with that page. Frame the picture with Zoom, from 100 to 400 percent, and the horizontal and vertical Position sliders while watching the preview. Show head-size guide draws a green oval for the smallest head and a red dashed oval for the largest; it never appears in the download.
The Make background white + auto-fit head button attempts both jobs at once, and its result still needs checking. Pick a File size limit if a form needs one, then press Download Single Photo, or Download Print Sheet for several copies on one page.
When to use it
Use it to prepare a home-taken picture for an application that accepts your own photo, to print copies at a local shop on 4x6 inch paper, or to squeeze a photo under an upload form's size ceiling. It handles sizing and cropping, the part people most often get wrong, while you stay in charge of lighting, expression and background.
When not to use it
Do not treat the result as approved by any authority. The tool cannot check expression, glasses, head coverings, shadows, background colour, how recent the photo is or the exact measurement rules of the issuing country, and only twelve templates exist. When an application demands a professionally verified photo, use the studio or booth service that your embassy or passport office names.
Tips for best results
Shoot with the camera level with your eyes in even light from the front, and leave room above the head, because zooming in cannot add resolution. Use the ovals as a rough check: the hair top should sit near the oval tops and the chin between their bottoms. Even after auto-fit, adjust by eye, since head height is an estimate. Output is 300 DPI, so a 35 x 45 mm template downloads at 413 x 531 pixels.
Limitations
The head-size ranges are fixed numbers stored in the tool and may not match an authority's current rules. Auto-fit estimates the head from a cut-out silhouette, so hair, hats, a busy background or cropped shoulders can throw it off. Zoom cannot go below 100 percent, so a picture lacking space around the head cannot be padded out. A size limit is met by lowering JPEG quality to a floor, so a large photo can still miss it. Output is always JPEG.
Privacy
A portrait is personal, so to be precise: cropping, sheet layout and JPEG saving all happen in your browser tab. The white-background button uses a cut-out model file of roughly 4.6 MB that is downloaded from this site on first use and then reused from your browser cache; the photo is analysed on your device and is not uploaded. The guide ovals exist only in the preview.
