Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode or decode Base64 strings
About Base64 Encode / Decode
Encodes text or data into Base64 format, or decodes Base64 back into its original form — a common encoding used to safely represent binary data as plain text, often seen in data URLs, email attachments, and API tokens.
Paste your text or Base64 string and press Encode or Decode. To encode a file, choose it under "Encode a file" (up to 3.0 MB; it never leaves your browser) and copy or download the data URI or Base64. Decoding binary data or a data: URL gives you a Download file button. Text is converted as UTF-8, so any language and emoji work, and decoding accepts standard or URL-safe Base64, missing padding, and data: URLs.
Base64 encoding is not encryption — it's a reversible format for safely representing data as text, so don't rely on it to keep anything actually secret or secure.

- What is Base64 encoding actually used for?
- It's a way to represent binary data as plain text, commonly used for data: URLs that embed small images in HTML/CSS, encoding data in URLs, or passing binary data through systems that only handle text safely. This tool converts text; it does not take image or other files.
