Use EPUB Maker to turn .docx, .md, or .txt chapters into an EPUB 3 ebook with title page, contents, and optional cover.
Sam Okonkwo has a finished draft as separate chapter files and needs an EPUB 3 for device proofing before store upload. EPUB Maker builds an EPUB 3 from .docx, .md, or .txt chapters (or pasted text), adds book details and optional cover, and downloads an .epub with title page, copyright page, contents, and navigation—assembled in the browser.
This guide covers one job only: produce a valid EPUB 3 from ordered chapters for reading proof and store prep.
For full book writing, platform trim, and preflight, use Book Writing Toolbox. EPUB Maker is the chapter-file-to-EPUB path when the manuscript already exists as files. Word counts: Word Counter. Markdown helpers: Markdown HTML Converter.
.docx files, one chapter eachen-US, optional descriptionen, en-US, fr, es).The tool reports accessibility status based on what you included. Example: a text-only book with no images can pass notes about alt text not being required and may declare EPUB Accessibility metadata when conditions match. If you add images, plan alt text and re-check—do not ignore the note.
Amazon, Apple, and other stores each have their own validators and packaging rules. EPUB Maker gives you an EPUB 3 structure to start from; always run the store’s current checker and fix issues they report. Treat the download as a strong draft package, not a guarantee of one-click acceptance.
Title_v1_proof.epub, then Title_v2_store.epub after validator fixes. Keep chapter sources in a parallel folder so you can rebuild without hunting email attachments.
Strip tracked changes and comments from Word chapters. Mysterious revision text in an EPUB is embarrassing on a Kindle. Prefer “Accept all and save a clean export” the day before build.
Name covers with title and size (Title_cover_1600x2560.jpg). Do not reuse a Facebook banner with the wrong aspect ratio and hope stores crop kindly.
If you also need print PDF, do not treat EPUB Maker as the print engine. Use Book Writing Toolbox or your print path for paper; keep EPUB for reflow reading. Trying to force print layout into reflow EPUB frustrates both formats.
Build → open in reader → store checker → fix chapters → rebuild. Budget an afternoon for the first book; later books go faster once your chapter template is stable.
Build a one-chapter EPUB before the full twelve. Confirm fonts, quotes, and heading levels look right. Fixing structure on a sample is cheaper than rebuilding the whole book three times.
Title and author must match the store listing exactly. Language codes should match the text. Description text can be short for proof builds and expanded later for the store page.
Chapter file types? .docx, .md, .txt (and paste).
Is the manuscript uploaded? No—browser-side assembly.
Will every store accept it? Run each store’s checker; rules differ and change.
Imagine a memoir with twelve chapter files, ten saved as .docx and two as Markdown. Drop all twelve into EPUB Maker, and each file becomes one chapter. If a file starts with a level-one heading, that text names the chapter and is not printed twice, because the EPUB writes the chapter title as its own heading. Files without that heading take their title from the file name, so rename "ch07_final.docx" to a real title in the chapter list before building.
Use the up and down arrows to fix order, then fill in title, author, language, and the optional description. Language must be a code such as en, en-US, or fr, and an ISBN, if you add one, must be a valid ten or thirteen digit number.
Before you build, the tool shows an accessibility note. A book with no images passes, and one with images passes only if every image has alt text. Images inside a Word file are not imported, so a text-only manuscript is the safest fit. The cover can be a JPEG, PNG, or GIF up to 10 MB, and the reading preview lets you scan a chapter before you download.
Proof on a real reader, not only in the browser preview. Open EPUB Maker, order chapters, fill metadata, download, and validate for your target store.
