Writing Clean Copy for the Web
From a rough draft to something genuinely polished and easy to read.
Grammar comes first because it catches genuine errors that no amount of rephrasing fixes -- there's no point polishing sentences that are still grammatically wrong. Paraphrasing tightens phrasing only once the underlying grammar is solid, since rephrasing an error just produces a differently-worded error. Reading level is checked after the writing itself is settled, since editing for clarity naturally changes reading level and checking it earlier would mean checking a number that's about to change anyway. Word count is genuinely the last check, since trimming or expanding to hit a target should happen after the writing is otherwise finished, not before.
