New: 3D File Converters and a Real Screen Recorder

Two additions that do not fit neatly into an existing category are useful enough to get their own writeup: a set of 3D mesh tools for printing and CAD-adjacent work, and a screen recorder with a matching screenshot tool.

3D and CAD file tools

If you work with 3D printing or model files, the 3D Mesh Converter converts between STL, OBJ, PLY (ASCII or binary), GLB and 3MF, entirely in your browser with no upload to a third-party service. Which format when

A short guide saves a lot of round trips:

• Binary STL is the compact choice for sending a part to a printer or a print service. A model that is 40 MB as ASCII STL is often a fraction of that as binary, with identical geometry.
• ASCII STL is readable as plain text, which helps when you need to diff two exports or debug a file a slicer rejects.
• OBJ and PLY are common when a scan or sculpting program is the source; PLY can carry per-vertex color that STL cannot.
• GLB and 3MF suit sharing a model in a web viewer or handing a print job to software that expects 3MF.

A workable routine: open the file in the viewer first and look at the dimensions. If a part you designed as 80 mm shows up as 0.08, the exporter used meters, and it is much cheaper to learn that before converting than after printing.

Screen Recorder and Screenshot Tool

The Screen Recorder captures your whole screen, a single window, or a browser tab, and can optionally record just a selected region. When you finish, you download the recording. The Screenshot Tool is the single-frame sibling: capture, crop, rotate, and draw or highlight on the image before copying or downloading it. Camera Capture takes a photo with your webcam or device camera and lets you crop it.

Both capture tools run in your browser, and nothing is uploaded anywhere until you choose to download the result. Your browser will ask which screen, window or tab to share each time, so you stay in control of what is captured.

Practical tips for cleaner captures

• Close notification-heavy apps and chat windows before recording. A tab capture avoids exposing the rest of your desktop; a full-screen capture shows everything, including pop-ups.
• Record a region when you are demonstrating one panel, such as a CAD viewport or a settings dialog. Smaller frames are easier to follow and produce smaller files.
• For a bug report, use the Screenshot Tool to circle the exact element, then attach the annotated image to the ticket. It is faster to read than a paragraph of description.
• Do a 10-second test recording first and play it back to confirm the right tab and audio source were shared.
